Local librarian elected to Missouri School Library

Vickie Howard,Cape Central Middle School Librarian

Cape Central Middle School librarian, Vickie Howard, was elected to the office of 2nd Vice President at the annual Missouri Association of School Librarians at Tan-Tar-A resort. Membership of the group consists of approximately 1000 librarians from the entire state.

Maggie Newbold, Ed. D, and current MASL President commented on Mrs. Howard's election, "The Missouri Association of School Librarians (MASL) is very fortunate to have such a competent librarian willing to serve in the office of 2nd Vice President. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Mrs. Vickie Howard. Her enthusiasm for literature and reading is contagious and I know that Mrs. Howard will have a positive impact on all of the members of our Association."

Mrs. Howard spear-headed the first state reading award for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 and presented the award to Ms. Susan Pfeffer, author of Life As We Knew It, at the conference.

Mrs. Howard is active with the local Southeast Missouri Library Association, serving as the president for several years. She also organized the Children/Young Adult's Literature Festival which was held at Southeast Missouri State University. She is a member of the Y.E.L.L. literacy group and active in numerous other community projects.

Mrs. Howard will be the MASL president in the school year 2012-2013.
