Redhawks get OVC honors

The Southeast Missouri State track and field program received three of the four Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards after strong performances over the weekend.

Senior Brandon Colbert was named male field athlete of the week for the fourth time this year.

Senior Chris Gill garnered his second straight male track athlete of the week honor and senior Juli Koenegstein was named female track athlete of the week for the second time this season.

Colbert recorded three top-20 finishes competing against the nation's best collegiate athletes at the Drake Relays. He was second in the discus with a season-high throw of 175 feet that ranks as the OVC's top distance this season.

Colbert also was ninth in the shot put (53-7 3/4) and 18th in the hammer throw (181-6).

Gill won the 400 meters at the SIU-Edwardsville Twilight Relays in 47.64 seconds. He has the OVC's top time this season.

Koenegstein was ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Drake Relays in 10:48.93. She has the top time in the OVC this year.

Southeast will compete Friday and Saturday at the OVC outdoor meet in Cookeville, Tenn.
