Sikeston man robbed at gunpoint Wednesday

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A man fell victim to a strong-armed robbery late Wednesday morning when he gave a ride to an acquaintance.
At 11:19 a.m., a man came to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety headquarters to report he was robbed at gunpoint. The victim told officers he took the suspect to apartments at 819 Davis Blvd.
There, the subject pulled a small caliber handgun and took the subject's wallet, which contained about $52, and a cell Because the victim knew the identity of the suspect, he was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. As of press time, he remained in custody at DPS, pending the filing of charges of armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd.
As a safety precaution, Lee Hunter Elementary on Baker Lane, less than a half mile from the crime scene, was placed in lockdown about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. The lockdown was lifted by DPS at 11:58 a.m.
"We sent out an all-call to the parents as soon as we figured out what was going on, and as soon as doing that, we were told by DPS we could go back to our regular routine," Sikeston superintendent Steve Borgsmiller said.
