Volkerding named rep of the month at Modern Woodmen
Ken Volkerding of Jackson, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, was named Representative of the Month in the Missouri East Region for the month of March. Volkerding joined Modern Woodmen in November 2004. Modern Woodmen is a fraternal life insurance society based in Rock Island, Ill., providing life insurance and annuity products.
Alzheimer's group welcomes new employee, board members
The Alzheimer's Association has appointed Teresa Birk of Jackson to serve as the Memory Walk coordinator for Southeast Missouri. The Alzheimer's Association also recently selected two new members for its board of directors. Jennifer Hendrickson of Hendrickson Business Advisors, and Cheryl Klueppel of the American Red Cross have both joined the board. Hendrickson and Klueppel both reside in Cape Girardeau. The Cape Girardeau Memory Walk will be Sept. 18 at Cape County Park North. The Farmington, Mo., Memory Walk is planned for Sept. 25 at Mineral Area College. Three area physicians named Fellows in Hospital Medicine
The Society of Hospital Medicine has named Southeast Missouri Hospital Adult and Critical Care Hospitalists Dr. Ismeth S. Abbas, Dr. Mark D. Dalton and Dr. Dale H. Foster as Fellows in Hospital Medicine. The designation demonstrates their commitment to hospital medicine, quality improvement and leadership. Southeast Missouri Hospital established its hospitalist program in 2001 and currently employs 10 physicians and two nurse practitioners in its hospitalist program.
Bjelich recertified as Healthcare Executives fellow
Steven C. Bjelich, president and CEO of Saint Francis Healthcare System, has been approved for recertification as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Bjelich has more than 30 years of extensive healthcare experience at the senior management level. He is a member of the board of directors, Government Relations Committee and Legislative Advisory Committee for the Missouri Hospital Association. He is on the board of directors for the Missouri Center for Patient Safety, and will serve as chairman in 2011. Saint Francis Healthcare System is the umbrella organization of Saint Francis Medical Center and Saint Francis Health Development Services.

Lanzotti & Rau LLC has moved into a new office at 354 S. Silver Springs Road, Suite A in Cape Girardeau. The firm opened its doors in December 2009. Mark J. Lanzotti and Daniel H. Rau have been practicing in Cape Girardeau for more than 10 years in the areas of personal injury, auto accidents, workers compensation, bankruptcy, Social Security disability and family law.
