Helen E. Roberts, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at her home.
She was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Piggott, Ark., to Henry C. and Cora Lee Perkins Nicolaides.
She and Joe "Gene" Roberts were married Nov. 17, 1936, at Herrin, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a member of First Methodist Church of Mounds, Ill. Her most important jobs were being the wife of a World War II veteran, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She owned a sweet shop during WWII, worked many years as a bookkeeper and was owner of a Ben Franklin Store in Mounds for 27 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Shearer of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Andrew Shearer (Bree) and Jennifer Conklin (Tim), all of Cape Girardeau; three great-grandchildren, Lainey Conklin, Nicholas Conklin and Carson Shearer, all of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Pauline Green of Cape Girardeau, Virginia Dapkus of Highland, Ill., and Joyce Wallace (Joe) of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Wedel Nilsen of Cape Girardeau; and a sister-in-law, Jean Nicolaides of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Homer, Elvin, Melvin, Myrel and Paul Nicolaides; and a sister, Dorothy Nilsen.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be with her husband at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
