Each year the president of the Missouri State Eagles Aerie and the president of the Mo. State Eagles Auxiliary choose a charity of their choice to raise money for all year. The Missouri Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) are so grateful that "Prescription Drug Assistance" was chosen as their charity of choice for the year 2009-2010.

Many of the senior citizens in our state have to choose between paying rent and utilities or purchasing their prescriptions. Even with the assistance of Medicare Prescription Drug Programs and MO Rx assistance the prices can be daunting for some. That's where the Eagles program will step in. This is a program of "last resort" in other words if all other options have been tried and still more help is needed the Eagles program may be able to help.

In December 2009 the first group of checks were distributed to the AAAs totaling $40,000. On March 20 another group of checks in the amount of $20,000 were distributed. In the accompanying photo Ruth Dockins, Public Information Director for the SEMO AAA, is shown accepting the check for the AAAs around the state from Dennis DeLapp state Eagles Aerie president and Pam Boyd state Eagles Auxiliary president.

Seniors who are having difficulty paying for their prescription drugs should contact SEMO AAA at 335-3331 or 1-800-392-8771 and speak with Ruth, Jackie or Liz about assistance.
