Chaffee centennial

Chaffee intends to mark its 100th anniversary this summer with plenty of events that commemorate the town's rich history.

There's a centennial pageant with vignettes of the town's history, carriage rides through downtown during Old-Fashioned Days, a tractor parade downtown and the annual Frisco Days celebrations.

Chaffee was formed in 1905 by two giants in Southeast Missouri: railroad and farming. These two forces continue to have a strong influence on the Scott County community today.

When the Chaffee Real Estate Co. of St. Louis bought land to plat the town, the intent was to provide service for the Frisco Railroad. But even after the railroad left town, Chaffee continued to thrive.

Today, the community offers a quiet place for people who want the best of what the region offers its residents. Chaffee offers what makes Southeast Missouri such a great place to live: simple life in a small community with friendly residents.

Unlike many other small towns that dot the highways of Southeast Missouri -- and even the nation -- Chaffee has had the staying power to draw new residents and keep growing.
