A Perry County Middle School student had a desire to help support the PAWS (Perry Animal Welfare Society) organization and asked his school counselor, Glenda Gremaud, if he could involve his school mates.

"Kyle Brewer approached me about wanting to help the PAWS organization and getting his classmates to help out," said Mrs. Gremaud. "I told him we could use one of our Spirit Days from Red Ribbon Week to have a hat day (Tipping my Hat to be Drug Free) and have anyone wanting to wear a hat to pay $1.00 and have the proceeds go to PAWS. We were able to collect a total of $123.00."

"We really appreciate this donation," said Rick Schemel. "Everything we collect goes into the spay and neutering program. We encourage people to have their pets spayed or neutered to help eliminate unwanted cats and dogs that end up abandoned or abused."

PAWS is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 corporation, dedicated to the welfare of the animals of Perry County. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks Club Room except in case a Monday falls on a holiday. Then it will be held on the second Monday. Donations can be made to: PAWS, P. O. Box 29, Perryville, Missouri 63775.
