Career and Technology Center director speaks at national convention

Richard Payne, Director of the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, spoke at the annual Technology Centers That Work National Forum in Jacksonville, FL, January 13-14. The purpose of the forum was to explore innovative practices for students to be successful in both careers and further studies.

Payne and two technology center directors from Arkansas and South Carolina served on a panel which discussed bridging the communication gap between career centers and high schools. Payne shared the techniques he uses to develop relationships with area high schools. He discussed the importance of communicating each student's goals and aspirations to faculty, and explained how he coordinates with high schools to produce successful graduates. The Cape Career and Technology Center, located at 1080 S. Silver Springs Road, has an enrollment of 850 students and offers programs in 24 different fields ranging from aviation to nursing.
