"The house is basically a total loss," said Garry Moore, Whitewater fire chief. Firefighters from the Gordonville, Millersville and Leopold departments also responded.
There were no injuries. The homeowners were in St. Louis and the house was not occupied at the time, Moore said. The house, at 3939 Route U, was about 1,800 square feet and included a basement, he said.
The single-story home was engulfed in flames when firefighters reached the scene at about 2:30 p.m., he said.
"It had fire coming out the front, the back and one of the sides," Moore said.
It took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control, he said. They were on the scene for about five hours.

sad, and even worse timing of the year for that to happen
Thank goodness what a blessing that everyone was away from home when this happened. Things can be replaced but, lives can not. Very sad!
