Silkworm Works to Renovate Bald Knob Cross with T-shirts

If all it took to renovate the Bald Knob Cross was a T-shirt, would you help out? That is exactly what Silkworm is doing for one of the most recognizable landmarks in Southern Illinois. Beginning Saturday, December 12th, locations throughout Southern Illinois and into Missouri will be selling T-shirts to raise money for the restoration of Bald Knob Cross. The T-shirts sell for just $10 each and all proceeds go to Friends of the Cross. "Silkworm is dedicated to helping the Southern Illinois community," said Sam Bell, Senior Marketing Coordinator at Silkworm, "The Cross is one of the most visible landmarks in Southern Illinois. How could we not want to help?"

The T-shirt fundraiser program by Silkworm has been very successful in the past, raising money for Saluki Way during Football and Basketball seasons, The Women's Center of Carbondale and Murphysboro Food Pantry after the May 8th, 2009 storm, and most recently the General John A. Logan Museum of Murphysboro.

Silkworm, Inc. is a custom apparel, promotional products and graphic design company located in Murphysboro, IL. Since its founding in 1981, Silkworm has always been an active participant in its community and is proud to continue to do so.

The Bald Knob Cross was completed in 1963 and quickly became the most popular tourist attraction in Southern Illinois, attracting visitors from literally all over the world. It became a spectacular night sight which could be seen for 7500 square miles after it was illuminated with 40,000 watts of lighting. Recently the Cross has begun deteriorating physically as interest in the organization itself waned. Since January, 2009, the new board has been extremely busy with the physical restoration of the Cross, the organizational structure, fiscal policies and procedures, and program development aspects of Bald Knob.
