CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Jesse Robert Perry, 78, of Charleston died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at his home.
He was born March 7, 1927, at Senath, Mo., son of Charles William and Flora Parlimon Perry. He and Olga Mae Watson were married Oct. 20, 1946.
Mr. Perry moved to Vanduser, Mo., with his parents where he lived until joining the U.S. Navy in 1944 for service in World War II. During his service as a Seabee his division served on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Following his discharge he moved to Charleston where he engaged in farming.
He was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, serving several years as a Sunday school teacher and 53 years as a deacon.
Although he was active in the Civil Air Patrol Unit in Sikeston several years, his true hobby interests included deer hunting and fishing, having spent 33 winters in Okeechobee, Fla., doing just that.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse Robert and Liz Perry II of Farmington, Mo.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and Phil Thomas of Upland, Calif., Denise and Tom Daughhetee and Linda and Rocky Walker, all of Charleston; seven grandsons, Thomas Gideon of St. Louis, Christopher Gideon of St. Charles, Mo., Adam Daughhetee and Caleb Daughhetee of Charleston, Jesse Perry III of Cape Girardeau, Joel Perry of Farmington, Rocky Walker II of Charleston; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Jessen of Louisville, Ky., and Christie Rochelle Mueller of Jackson.
Also surviving are two great-grandsons, Rocky "Trey" Walker III of Charleston, Ramzy Gideon of St. Charles; six great-granddaughters, Natalie, Brianna and Makayla Mueller of Jackson, Maegan Walker of Charleston, Aubrey Gideon of St. Charles, Haley Gideon of Fairfield, Ohio; a brother, Charles Perry of Bertrand, Mo.; a sister, Gayle Carr of Granite City, Ill.; a special brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Ruth Watson of Diehlstadt, Mo.; numerous cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruby Hesselrode, Bonnie Perry and Velma Presley; and three brothers, Glynn, James and Bennie Perry.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Southside Baptist Church, with his son, Jesse Perry II officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, with military graveside rites by Missouri Funeral Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be the seven grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be the two granddaughters.
