Jolene A. Hancock, 31, was driving with Christopher W. Hancock, 34, and a 10-year-old boy in their 2009 Toyota Tundra when they stopped on the right shoulder of Interstate 55 near the 188.6 mile marker, a patrol accident report said.
Their vehicle was struck when a 2007 Hyundai Elantra driven by Melina Clark, 16, of Imperial, Mo., ran off the road and hit the Hancock's sport utility vehicle from behind. That sent the Tundra into traffic, where it was hit by a 2010 Peterbilt tractor driven by Roger R. McIrvin, 54, of Pensacola, Fla., and struck a third time by a 1993 Ford Explorer driven by Joshua L. Cheli, 30, of Litchfield, Ill.
Christopher Hancock suffered moderate injuries, while Jolene Hancock was listed as suffering serious injuries by the highway patrol. Clark suffered moderate injuries and Cheli's injuries were listed as serious.
The 10-year-old boy was not hurt.

What in the world was a 2009 vehicle doing stopped on the side of the interstate?
Most likely switching drivers before getting into city traffic.
I notice people doing that once in a while instead of pulling off at an exit.
Why did the girl travel off the highway onto the road shoulder? That is the question, not why the other vehicle was stopped! Sixteen year olds should not be permitted to drive unless they have an adult (over 21) with them.
.....and so it goes~~
Get all your facts straight before judging the driver(s) of the Tundra. They were being safe, switching drivers. Driver B followed their lights, not the road, the truck driver did a fantastic job of avoiding even a more serious accident. Just pray for the people injured and don't be so judgmental. Kindness and caring is better than finger pointing. That and accident reports Are Not conclusive in their telling.
Did the lady have any brocken bones?Did the driver have any brocken bones?
the 16 year old was probably playing with her cell phone at the time. no doubt.
