Iraq veteran speaks at Legion birthday dinner

The annual Louis K. Juden American Legion birthday dinner held in Cape Girardeau was attended by about 150 legion members and their families. Post 63 commander Robert Bunn presided.
Post 63 member and Army veteran Spc. 1st Class Matthew A. Toeniskoetter spoke about the 1140th National Guard Engineer Battalion's mission and experiences in Iraq. Toeniskoetter served as a combat engineer for more than a year in Iraq.
American Legion Department of Missouri commander David Shafer was in attendance to address guests on departmental legion programs and affairs.
Central High School librarian and creator of the school's "Tribute to Veterans" program Julia Howes Jorgensen received Post 63's annual Educator of the Year award.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to Post 63 members John Schwab and John Ferguson for their service, dedication and support.
