Arts Council Hosts Southeast Missourian Photojournalism Exhibition

Timeless moments in Cape Girardeau history as captured by the staff of the Southeast Missourian will be featured during December and January at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's gallery. The Southeast Missourian Photojournalism Exhibition will open Friday, Dec. 4, with a reception from 5 to 9 p.m.

The exhibition features more than 60 images from the pages of the Southeast Missourian newspaper from the 1940's through 2009. Visitors will see the contrast of past and present as they view these photographs in both Gallery 100 & the Lorimier Gallery, located inside the Arts Council at 32 N. Main, in Cape Girardeau.

"Some things in photography have changed including technology, color film, and equipment, but many things stay the same regardless of when the photo was taken like composition, good exposure and capturing a classic candid moment," says Kit Doyle, photojournalist with the Southeast Missourian.

Along with Doyle, other Missourian photographers past and present featured in the exhibit include G.D. Fronabarger, Fred Lynch, Aaron Eisenhauer, Elizabeth Dodd, Diane L. Wilson, Mark Sterkel, and Donald Kremer.

Photographic themes covered in the exhibit include natural disasters, politics, and the Mississippi River. All images are for sale and may be ordered in a variety of sizes. A portion of these proceeds will benefit the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's ongoing programs.

During First Friday, Dec. 4, the Arts Council is one of more than a dozen downtown businesses participating in the Old Town Cape Downtown Open House. For more information on this program please call (573)334-8085. First Friday reception wine is provided to the Arts Council by Major Brands.

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is located at 32 N. Main Street in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
