Scott County bar fight leads to serious injuries, assault charge

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
BENTON, Mo. -- A Charleston, Mo., man will return to court Dec. 15 on an assault charge following an altercation that left another man seriously injured.

Quentin C. Branam, 21, who was arrested Sunday in Charleston, is charged with first-degree assault. He was released from Scott County Jail in Benton after posting a $50,000

bond.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said a deputy patrolling early Saturday morning in the Diehlstadt area noticed numerous vehicles parked at a bar after hours. When the deputy entered the bar to investigate, he found the victim, who had been badly beaten.

The victim was taken to the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, where he was treated for a broken nose and released. Later during the day the victim was transported by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital, where he was diagnosed with possible serious internal injuries due to the beating. Walter said the victim remained in the hospital awaiting possible surgery.

An investigation revealed the victim and Branam allegedly got into a verbal altercation outside the bar about closing time, according to the sheriff.

"The verbal altercation progressed into a physical altercation which resulted in the victim being badly beaten," Walter said. Branam left the bar after the altercation and went to Charleston.

The victim was taken back inside the bar where he remained until the deputy arrived.

I say let the perpetrator do some SERIOUS time in prison. People need to stop and realize that booze is not the way to go. Booze or no booze, it si not ok to hurt another human being.

I see where MDMC treated him for a broken nose and released him. Later he had to go north to a another hospital and get the proper treatment. Now MDMC wants to put a clinic in Charleston Mo. Why? So they can kill everyone over there with their non-skilled hands and noncaring touch?
