Main, High streets in Uptown Jackson reopened

Friday, November 20, 2009
Traffic reopened Friday at Main and South High streets in Jackson after work on crosswalk improvements closed that section of roadway for five days.

According to a new release from the City of Jackson, most of the work by Kluesner Construction crews was complete by 1 p.m. Friday. The improvements are part of the uptown historic district renovation project that includes historic lighting, benches, bike racks, trash receptacles and additional parking on High Street.

There wasn't anything wrong with the old sidewalks, they just took away a couple of feet on each side so they can add a few more parking spaces (for Tractors) LOL.

None of this matters anyway, you still have 2 sidewalks to nowhere.

I like how they slipped the one way street in on everyone without discussion.

This was brought up several times over the past 5 years and always put on the back burner and then without giving the people any input, wham it's now one way.

The businesses wanted it to keep people from cutting through from the south after school.

I have news for the business owners, I'm not in school but I did drive by their stores to avoid sitting in a traffic back up (sometimes backed up from Main Street down S. Hope to Strickert's)

It at least got me to drive by their stores.

I will add that most afternoons, there are usually only 4 or 5 cars parked on the block they just renovated.

In most places business owners want people driving by their stores.

These Jackson business owners should be happy, they've cut down traffic past their stores like they wanted.

One last comment, the the street surface looks terrible now!
