Southeast Missouri State's softball team bounced back from Saturday's doubleheader loss to salvage the finale of its three-game series at Tennessee-Martin.
The Redhawks got two home runs from Michelle Summers and defeated the Skyhawks 6-3. Southeast is 10-8 overall and 1-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while UTM fell to 15-7 and 2-1.
Summers went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in two runs with her solo shots. Stephanie Mata went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Victoria Torrez was 2-for-4. Southeast had nine hits.
Freshman Elaine Fisher was the winning pitcher, in relief of starter Amy Fahnestock. Fisher allowed one hit in 1 2/3 shutout innings. Stephanie Huffman picked up a save with two innings of shutout relief, allowing two hits. Fahnestock gave up five hits and three runs in 3 1/3 innings.
UTM had three home runs. The losing pitcher was Megan Mizell, who tossed a perfect game against Southeast during Saturday's doubleheader nightcap.
Southeast returns to action Tuesday with a 2 p.m. non-conference home doubleheader against Wright State.
Gymnasts place second
Southeast's gymnastics team finished second Sunday in a triangular meet hosted by the University of Missouri. The Tigers, ranked 21st nationally, scored 195.750, followed by Southeast (192.235) and Air Force (188.775).
Missouri won every individual event, but Southeast had several strong performances, including going 2-3-4 in the all-around. Tara Boldt was second (38.975), with Katie Bloom third (38.950) and Alison Ezell fourth (37.900).
Boldt tied for third on beam (9.825), Bloom tied for third on bars (9.725) and Boldt tied for fourth on floor (9.775).
The Redhawks finish the regular season Friday at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships in Denton, Texas.
