Camp is becoming unsafe place

To the editor:

About Camp TeAta: My Girl Scout troop has been one of the few to enjoy this camp site from year to year. Though we are saddened that our traditional fall trip may change, we understand it. We appreciate the primitive site, but it is not maintained well. It usually takes us several hours of cleaning to make it fit for a weekend. We have to take in our own drinking water. The stove has only one burner. We have fixed a broken window with a trash bag, and a year later it was still there. There are others who don't leave it cleaner than they found it.

As a small troop of older girls and adults, we can handle these minor inconveniences, but a troop of 20 Brownies would find it hard even under the best conditions. The property needs a lot of attention. If not, it will become unsafe, and serious injury could occur. It's a sad thing to lose a part of our past. I camped there as a Scout 35 years ago. But the safety of girls is the most important thing.
