25 years ago: Nov. 11, 1984

Christ Episcopal Church's congregation recently purchased a Rodger's organ; it was used for the first time last Sunday but will be formally dedicated at a recital at a later date.

Jeremiah's, a new steakhouse, has opened at 127 N. Water St.; co-owners are David McKinney of Cape Girardeau and Tom Sanders of Paducah, Ky.

50 years ago: Nov. 11, 1959

The Jackson Public Library is about to move to another building, as construction goes forward on the combined library and city hall; at the same time, librarian Bess Litzelfelner has asked to be retired after 33 years on the job.

Rain begins to fall as the Veterans Day parade leaves Central High School, causing most of the crowd which follows to dissipate by the time the program gets underway at Houck Stadium; guest speaker for the event is Milton Carpenter, Missouri director of revenue.

75 years ago: Nov. 11, 1934

Armistice Day is observed in Cape Girardeau with afternoon religious services at State College auditorium; the Rev. A.H. Beardsley, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, presides; the program is sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance.

The Forty-Hour Devotion ends at St. Mary's Catholic Church in the evening with a solemn ceremony; in closing three days of public homages and prayer, the Rev. M. Helmbacher of Oran, Mo., is celebrant; the Rev. J.F. Keusenkothen of Kelso, Mo., preaches.

100 years ago: Nov. 11, 1909

The Central Hotel in Jackson has been sold to Oliver B. Kinder, who purchased it from the Kamp heirs; this hotel has for years been a favorite stopping place for the traveling public.

Local teachers have unanimously agreed to organize a Cape Girardeau City Teachers' Association; each teacher will pay in a day's salary as a year's dues; the money will be used to bring prominent educators here for lectures.
