Tuesday, November 10, 2009
A fire caused extensive damage to a home at 1828 West Weissinger Lane in Cape Girardeau and minor damage to a home next door Monday afternoon, according to Cape Girardeau Fire Department assistant chief Mark Hasheider. The fire started in the garage, but the cause was still being investigated early Monday evening, Hasheider said. Extensive fire and smoke damage were evident on the main floor of the home, with water damage in the basement. Two people were at the home at the time of the fire but were able to evacuate safely. One of them was also able to remove a car from a spot near the garage to safety, Hasheider said. A home next door also sustained some minor heat and smoke damage to its siding, Hasheider said.
