With the planned removal of seven houses along North Sprigg Street by Southeast Missouri State University, one of those homes hits the road; crews are moving the frame residence to Northwoods Court; the property will be the site of a proposed new mental health treatment center for children and adolescents.

Charles H. Sander, former Jackson mayor and businessman and Cape Girardeau County judge, died yesterday at age 92.

50 years ago: Nov. 8, 1959

Services begin at the newly organized Baptist Mission at Vandeven Hall, 833A Broadway, with the Rev. Ellis Whittaker as pastor; the church is affiliated with the Bible Baptist Fellowship of Springfield, Mo.

The solemn closing of Forty Hours Devotion is held in the afternoon at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Franklin D. Schmittzehe of Sacred Heart Church in Willow Springs, Mo., preaching the sermon.

75 years ago: Nov. 8, 1934

Shrubbery is being moved from Courthouse Park to Fairground Park and to a lot owned by the city at the junction of Washington Avenue and North Fountain Street; Louis Brunke, superintendent of Courthouse Park, is thinning out the shrubs.

Joining the Lions Club in the movement, members for the Optimist Club suggest that business houses close on the afternoon of Nov. 23, when the championship football game is played between the State College and Kirksville, Mo., teams; it is also suggested a similar holiday be declared for schools.

100 years ago: Nov. 8, 1909

Edward F. Regenhardt leaves in the morning for Knob Lick, Mo., to inspect the granite blocks being quarried there for use in paving Broadway hill; he will probably be away several days.

U.G. Post of Commerce, Mo., visits Cape Girardeau; he says his tile factory will be in operation before the first of the year.
