Speak Out 11/9/09

Official character

"IN selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate -- look at his character. It is alleged by men of loose principles, or defective views of the subject, that religion and morality are not necessary or important qualifications for political stations. But the scriptures teach a different doctrine. They direct that rulers should be men who rule in the fear of God, men of truth, hating covetousness. It is to the neglect of this rule that we must ascribe the multiplied frauds, breaches of trust, speculations and embezzlements of public property which astonish even ourselves; which tarnish the character of our country and which disgrace our government. When a citizen gives his vote to a man of known immorality, he abuses his civic responsibility; he not only sacrifices his own responsibility; he sacrifices not only his own interest, but that of his neighbor; he betrays the interest of his country." -- Noah Webster (1758-1843), American patriot and scholar

Health comparisons

IT is a sign of desperation when a commentator forces his political philosophy to trump evidence and reason. When we compare health care in the U.S., we clearly lag far behind many other nations, including some developing Third World nations, in infant survival. Instead of examining this evidence and asking what they have in common that we lack, David Limbaugh rejects the evidence and simply tries to demonize superior health care systems by belittling them as socialized single-payer systems. When confronted with a problem, most people would look to those who have solved it and ask how we might emulate what they do. Surely better health care at half the cost is not the work of the devil. It's a system to be studied and modeled.

Insurance dollars

ACCORDING to a study by the Senate Commerce Committee, health insurance companies pays out as little as 66 cents of every dollar of premiums. Medicare pays out more than 90 cents on every dollar received. The insurance companies don't give out aspirin or bandages. They only handle the money and rake off as much profit as they can. You can delude yourself, or deal with facts. It's your money either way.

Thanks for breakfast

TO the man who paid for our breakfast at Denny's: We appreciate it. May God bless you.

Mind crime

I do not make my living with my hands. I make my living with my mind. The theft of intellectual property is a crime. The police should enforce the laws regarding this issue.

Pro bono payback

THAT was a nice article Sunday about Josh Kezer and his thankfulness for his pro bono lawyer who got his conviction reversed. There's nothing to keep him from getting a job and spending a good deal of his income to pay back that lawyer.

Missing mask

I'M calling on Sunday morning after Halloween night to share that someone came back to my house after trick or treating to remove the face mask from a ghoul I had on the front porch. I don't mind someone wanting that. What I mind is it has been a part of our family for 25 years. It was my son's as a teenager. He and my daughter were in a Halloween costume contest 25 years ago, I have pictures of him in that mask. I hope it becomes a family treasure for someone else's household just as it was for ours. If it happens to show back up on my front porch, that wouldn't bother me a bit, either.

Four-way waving

IT annoys me when people wave me through at a four-way stop. It seems to be getting more and more common. I don't mind so much when two people pull up at the exact same time, but people are doing it when they obviously got there first or other times when I know it is my turn but they start waving before I even have a chance to take my foot off the pedal, as if I need their permission. One guy started waving me through before he even came to a complete stop. If you are at a four-way stop pay attention, wait your turn, stop playing traffic cop and just go.

Missing senator

AMERICANS for Prosperity sponsored a protest of the impending health care bill at the federal building in Cape Girardeau. This was to be in conjunction with the protest in Washington, D.C. About 30 people were at the federal building to express their opinion that this is a bad bill. Not only was U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill not there, but she had given her staff the day off. I would say this tactic was to prevent her constituents from having an opportunity to express their displeasure of this infringement on our rights and shredding of the Constitution by the Democratic Party. What a cowardly reaction to this issue and lack of representation for the people of Missouri.

Obsessed neighbor

MY neighbor is obsessed with her yard and thinks everyone else should be, too. You can't walk out of your house without her doing the same and pointing out everything you need to do. If a piece of grass is out of place, she'll enter our fenced-in yard, without asking, and do what she pleases. This is not OK with me. Some people can't afford $400 to trim trees. We do the best we can.

Better mileage

IN the front-page story on Cash-for-Clunkers, you quote: "If we're looking for the environmental story here, we're going to be disappointed," Jeremy Anwyl said. However, you report that average mileage went from 15.8 to 24.9 mpg. This means only about half of the carbon dioxide will be emitted. That's hardly a disappointment.

Have you seen THE OBAMA DECEPTION, or, THE FALL OF THE REPUBLIC?

Those of us who are prior military wonder if the terrorists were from the Middle East, or, if this was an updated OPERATION NORTHWOODS.

Yes, my name is an actual operation planned in the late 50's, early 60's. Just put it into your search engine and you will see that YOUR GOVERNMENT...PENTAGON,... CIA...and the NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY, PLANNED TO COMMITT ACTS OF TERROR AGAINST AMERICANS AND BLAME IT ON CUBA... in order to get the American people angry and demanding a war with Cuba back then. It was a very detailed plan, that included bombings, and flying a plane by remote control, blowing it up by remote control, and claiming that Cuban MIGS had done it. READ, PEOPLE....DAMNIT, READ!!!!!!!!!

http://www.google.com/search?q=OPERATION...

About OPERATION NORTHWOODS from ABC NEWS...

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92662&...

"In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities.

The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba's then new leader, communist Fidel Castro.

America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

Details of the plans are described in Body of Secrets (Doubleday), a new book by investigative reporter James Bamford about the history of America's largest spy agency, the National Security Agency. However, the plans were not connected to the agency, he notes.

The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy's defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years. "

IF THE GOVERNMENT...that is the CIA, PENTAGON and NSA (Tne National Security Agency) WOULD COME UP WITH A PLAN TO CARRY OUT TERROR IN US CITIES AND KILL AMERICANS.... what makes you think that they would not do the same in Oklahoma City in 1995, and in NYC in 2001??????

Why, IF WE HAD BEEN ATTACKED BY REAL...REAL TERRORISTS... was our border left wide open? If you are prior, or, current military, or, LE, you have to ponder that question. WHY, IF THIS NATION WAS ATTACKED FROM TERRORISTS OUTSIDE THE US, was the southern border left wide open?

THE OBAMA DECEPTION... documentary movie free online

You should be able to see the incredible film... THE FALL OF THE REPUBLIC... showing how this New World Order came about, bankers, Explorer Scouts being trained to kick in doors like junior SWAT and take down returning Iraq war veterans, etc... it was a NY TIMES STORY.. too. Incredible stuff, it should make LE and US Military, and prior Military, angrier than hell...

MISSING SENATOR

You really need to watch the movies linked above. They are free online.

If you think that it is just the Demcorats shredding the Constitution, while they are in the thick of it, Republicans are doing a damn fine job of it, too.

Just watch the movies... THE OBAMA DECEPTION, and, THE FALL OF THE REPUBLIC.

The Obama Deception will make you mad. The Fall of the Republic will scare the hell out of you.

Official character,

It is good to know that there really are people out there who belives in doing right, and having our slime in government do right, as well.

You quoted Noah Webster in saying...

"They direct that rulers should be men who rule in the fear of God, men of truth, hating covetousness"

We no longer have a country that values these gems of moral character. Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama all have violated those treasured tenets that you propose. America is a country of greed, of covetousness, and the willingness to murder on a large scale to acheive their goals of globalism, and a New World Order.

Clinton had Larry Sanders in his government who got regulations lifted from these Wall Street scum, so that they could cook up any financial scheme, like derivatives that allowed the bankers to go full steam. Only Ms. Born who was Clinton's chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission stood in their way. She wanted to regulate the Derivatives, what they were, what they were worth, etc. Larry Summers screamed at her, and Summers won. Then, Bush had several Goldman Sachs prostitutes as his Treasury Secretaries, the worst being Henry Paulson, a Goldman Sachs man. Paulson came up with the bailout plan for greedy, gambling Wall Street Banekrs and Foreign Banks, and Jo Ann Emerson voted for the bailout TWICE. Then, Obama tagged Tim Geithner as his Treasury Secretary. This rotten piece of human feces, Tim Geithner, worked for KISSINGER ASSOCIATES, and was with the scum sucking, low life, world financial criminal organization, the International Monetary Fund, before he took over as head of the private banker owned Federal Reserve Bank in New York.

These are human garbage. They are globalists and everyone of them, Demcorat, or, Republicanl, Bush, or, Obama, are working to enslave us in their New World Order. See the movies above, and see if you don't agree.

Four way waving... if this is the most you have to complain about, I would say you have a very easy life. Consider yourself blessed, and go on through the intersection!

-- Posted by Theorist on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 5:59 AM

Intellectual Mind- I'm having a hard time figuring out how such a intellectual person could allow to have their mind "stolen". Besides, how does that work? I've come across many morons in my day, yet my intellect is still very much intact.

Obsessed Neighbor- Post a No Trespassing sign. Or, simply tell her you would prefer she stay out of your yard. Or get a vicious looking dog.

Four-way waving- I have to admit I have caught myself waving at some people. But in my defense it seems as though some people can't judge whether they got to the four way first (when clearly they did) but instead of being rude and going anyway, I wave to them as if to quietly say "yes, sir, you did stop here before me, so it is your turn and I can wait patiently".

Thanks for breakfast- What a nice gesture and one more act of kindness and step in the direction of restoring my faith in humanity.

Four-way waving ....is better then a one finger salute

Regarding paying back the lawyer: it's extremely difficult for anyone who has spent time in prison to find a job. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is frustrating to be turned down when employers look at your record.

-- Posted by redpen on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 8:37 AM

Aaahh.. AN intellectual.. not a.. the consequences of typing before the first cup of coffee.

-- Posted by kellyma82 on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 8:48 AM

Rick, good point!

redpen, this is true. It's an unfortunate fact. Some people are truly rehabbed but many employers don't want to take that chance.

-- Posted by kellyma82 on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 8:52 AM

redpen

during the 1980's , my place of employment hired rehabbed prisoners in a deal they made with the state of Missouri ...the only bad part to the deal was if the ex-prisoners lost their jobs , they would be in violation of their parole ....a couple of times there was quite the excitement when an ex got fired..

But Josh Kezer is not a "convicted felon" and can so answer on any application form.

Many businesses have a policy which prohibits hiring individuals with convictions, but as he has been determined to not only be not guilty, but innocent, this will not apply. In addition to a finding of "guilt" being a dis-qualifier, a plea of guilt even with a Suspended Imposition of Sentence can create problems.

I believe his record can be expunged under RSMo 610.

I am not saying there will not be some obstacles ie lack of a work history, but Mr. Kezer strikes me as a pretty resilient and determined individual.

I really don't think any attorney connected with this want or would accept compensation.

If you don't understand why jobs aren't coming back, please read further.

Health care reform will increase the cost of doing business.

Cap and trade will increase the cost of doing business

Letting Bush tax cuts expire will increase the cost of doing business (for the small businesses who create over 50% of new jobs) that pay taxes at the personal rate.

With so much uncertainty as to future costs, companies are waiting to hire until these issues are settled. If all the cost-increasing measures are enacted, then it will be a LONG time before hiring comes back.

Four-way waving....I bet she receives her share of one finger salutes as well. ☻

Obsessed neighbor..."she'll enter our fenced-in yard, without asking, and do what she pleases."

Obsessed neighbor..."she'll enter our fenced-in yard, without asking, and do what she pleases."

i'd tell her to get out of my damn yard and don't come back .

-- Posted by *Rick* on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 10:49 AM

rh3a,

Ultimately who do you suppose is going to pay those increased costs? I am sure you know, as you obviously have a good feel for what is ultimately going to happen, but I don't think some on here do!

-- Posted by Have_Wheels_Will_Travel on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 11:58 AM

Health comparisons;

Just the fact that you used the infant mortality rate as your example of how badly we need health care reform shows how woefully uninformed you are on this subject. When the World Health Organization compiles these reports they don't do the research themselves they just crunch the numbers given to them by the various world governments and do not take into account each systems definition of an infant mortality. Some countries only count it as an infant mortality if it happens in the first three days of life while others count it as such all the way up to one year old. There are also varying definitions of when the infant is considered "alive." If you compare the U.S.A.'s numbers to other countries that count them the same way we have one of the LOWEST infant mortality rates in the world. Don't drink the Kool-Aid being fed to you by politicians and the media!

Amen, Data.....great counter point to the speakout commenter who assails a radio talk show host for being biased when the speakout commentor offers no supporting evidence other than the brainwashed bias fed him or her from an opposing 'media' source offering no bona-fide 'unbiased' documentation for corroboration to propound any evidence for their 'testimony.' As it turns out there comment is nothing more than a biased propagandized left wing 'opinion' driven by a dangerous radical agenda.

Jackson don't need a round about on 61, or any other street. Tell Mr. Shatto to take this goofy idea back to St. Louis. Why do we have to hire a firm to figure out common sense problems anyway?

Watch the traffic at the one in Cape for a few minutes, and one should figure it out pretty quick. I can just see an eighteen wheeler making a round about at Jackson location. A waste of real estate, and money, and there's not plenty of either one.

-- Posted by Kickstarter on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 8:57 PM

Mind crime ....a mind is a terrible thing to cut and paste

-- Posted by *Rick* on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 7:16 AM

The round about in Cape is ridiculous. I've lost count how many times I've been cut off or almost hit. And forget about people waiting their turn. I'm a pretty patient person, so allowing someone else to go ahead of me isn't a problem.. but I'm afraid we will have one if a round about is installed on 61.

-- Posted by kellyma82 on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 7:50 AM

When I worked at a factory East of Jackson, I kept hoping that they would build 34 from the 72 junction on out to Hwy 55. That would have kept this maniac off the streets of Jackson, and we know from reading SO that Jackson is very particular about driving habits. But it wasn't built, and now I'm retired.

-- Posted by James Nall on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 8:23 AM

Where in the heck is this roundabout nonsense coming from? Surely Jackson is not considering this for 61.

seems like every new restaurant that opens at the old Sidetracks doesn't do very well . i wonder if this new Mario's will have karaoke ....

-- Posted by *Rick* on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 9:48 AM

I can't wait, Wheels. We need a good pasta place around here. It is a odd location, right next to the train.

-- Posted by Turnip on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 9:49 AM

Rick, my point exactly. Wonder why they didn't take Mazzio's, seems perfect to me.

Did Sidetracks have karaoke? I went in there a couple of times, I was not impressed.

Did Sidetracks have karaoke? I went in there a couple of times, I was not impressed.

-- Posted by Turnip on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 9:51 AM

Yeah, they had it three times a week. I used to go down quite often. It's within walking distance of my house. If I had too many, I could just follow the railroad tracks home.

The couple that ran Sidetracks got a partner and are going to open the old Muddy Waters out on hwy 177. I think it's supposed to be open either this weekend or next. They'll be having karaoke out there, too.

The ones that took over Sidetracks didn't last very long. I walked down one night to check it out. I ordered a beer and lit a cigarette. The bartender put up an ashtray and said this is a non-smoking establishment. So, I put out my cigarette, finished my beer, and never went back. I think they lasted all of 6 months, if that long.

Maybe I should go see if they want to do karaoke down there now. I have the equipment, and it would be close to home.

def...i know you did not believe all that propoganda stuff they had in the movie. i watch only enough of it to see all that b. s. that was put together to scare and mislead you to think that Obama is out with others to turn us all back into slaves...man what a crock of s! if you fall for that movie than i got another for you to watch too. It's about a white guy being the fastest man on earth.....yeah, like i said. That would be a crock of s too just like that movie you are promoting. get real!

-- Posted by kellyma82 on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 3:07 PM

Yep, that used to be the place to go. I used to play the sound system out there some 18+ years ago. That was back when it was records more than CD's and there really wasn't any karaoke as far as I know.

I have over 15,000 karaoke songs at the moment, but personally, I can't carry a note in a dump truck myself. Maybe hum a little bit.

They've been working on it for about three months now, so I'm not sure what it's going to be like when they get done. I guess I'll find out before long.

I miss the old Country Club on 177 also. Can't figure out why they let it go to crap.
