St Andrew Challenge Matching Grant for Transitional Housing

Love INC's Eva Hillis, Executive Director, and Jeff Fanger, Board Chair, receive gift from St. Andrew representatives Larry Cleair, Congregational Director, and Pastor Paul Short

St. Andrew Lutheran Church has offered a $15,000 challenge matching grant to provide seed money for Love In the Name of Christ's transitional housing campus. They are challenging congregations, businesses and individuals to match this amount.

"We have asked our members to step out in faith to continue their tithes in spite of the tough economic times," said congregational director Larry Cleair. "We as a church body wanted to show the same kind of boldness and will be taking this gift as a tithe from our reserve fund."

St. Andrew is challenging other congregations, businesses and individuals to do the same. "There's a very real need for this type of transitional housing in our community. We feel privileged to be able to play a part in getting the ball rolling," said Pastor Paul Short.

Initial seed money of $60,000 is needed to secure a building site and to hire a project manager. One of the sites currently being considered is located in the 500 block of North Main Street in Cape Girardeau.
