High school roundup: Bulldogs soccer team wins in OTTuesday, November 3, 2009Notre Dame senior Joe Froemsdorf wasn't ready for his final season of high school soccer to end. Froemsdorf took a pass from Jake Pewitt and deposited it in the goal to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-2 overtime victory against De Soto in their Class 2 District 1 opener Monday. Pewitt scored twice and Froemsdorf earned an assist on Pewitt's first goal. The Dragons opened the scoring about three minutes into the contest, but Pewitt tied it 1-1 before halftime. Pewitt's second goal early in the second half came off a pass from Tyler Buelow, but De Soto scored with about 30 seconds left in regulation. Froemsdorf ended the suspense early in overtime. "Certainly we need to play with a little more focus if we want to come out on top tomorrow," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said. James Holloway recorded five saves for the Bulldogs (12-12). Notre Dame, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 seed Hillsboro at 7 p.m. today. Perryville posted a 2-0 victory against Sikeston to advance to the semifinals. The Pirates will play top-seeded Farmington at 5 p.m. today. Class 1 District 1 Mark Buerck scored three goals and Taylor Johnson added two as Saxony Lutheran waltzed past Hancock 10-0 in their opener. Saxony led 9-0 by halftime as it improved to 17-4. The Crusaders will face Bayless at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Gus Klaus, Chad Bachmann, Bret Rodewald, Matt Stueve and Shaun Hadler each added a goal against Hancock. Rodewald recorded four assists, Klaus had two, and Hadler, Spencer Sander, Matt Wills and Logan Sprandel each finished with one.
