Cape Girardeau School Board meets tonight over budget issues

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

The Cape Girardeau School Board will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss budget and finance issues.

When the board approved the district's $42.9 million budget in June, it used $1.3 million in reserve funds to balance the budget. The district took similar steps in 2008 when it approved the budget in late July, after the start of the fiscal year.

When the 2009-2010 budget was approved, board members expressed concern about continuing to dip into reserve balances. Superintendent Dr. Jim Welker and district finance director Misty Clifton said they would work to present a balanced budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the district administrative offices.

What in the holy kingdom come does a small school district need 42 Million dollars for?
