NOTE: Some discrepancies were discovered when comparing Southeast Missourian records and those supplied by the city of Cape Girardeau. The city's list names the first four mayors as: E. Mason (1843-45); Thomas Johnson (1845-46); William Johnson (1846-47); and Thomas Johnson (1847-49).

(This original list -- from 1843 to 1986 -- was printed in the book "Images of the Past in the City of Roses.")
