MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced Friday that he has appointed Nick Bollinger, 50, of Marble Hill as Bollinger County circuit clerk. Bollinger will finish the term of Sharon Lutes, who resigned in September for health reasons. He was nominated for the position by the Bollinger County Democrat Club.

A swearing-in date for Bollinger has not yet been set.

Reached at his home today, Bollinger said he was excited about the prospect of taking on the job.

"I will try to do my best," he said. "My number is in the phone book and if anyone needs to reach me they can call or come by the office."

Bollinger is a self-employed bricklayer and a member of Bricklayers Local 23. He said he has worked with a friend, who will take over the brick-laying business once he assumes office.

He was a candidate for Bollinger County collector in 1994, and he said he intends to file for the position when filing opens in February, 2010.

Joe Carlisle, president of the Democrat Club, said he was pleased that Nixon accepted the club's recommendation.

"The club is behind him (Bollinger) 100 percent," Carlisle said. "He is a fine man and has worked around the area for a long time. He is well known and well liked, a family man. He's just a real terrific person. I think he will do Bollinger County proud."

A lifelong resident of the county, Bollinger and his wife have two children.

"Nick Bollinger is well-known to the people of Bollinger County, and I am confident he will serve them ably as their new circuit clerk," Nixon said.

You'd think, as a lawyer, Jay Nixon would understand how critical it is to have knowledgeable individuals in county clerk positions. These folks are responsible for keeping the court system running efficiently and they have to know a heck of a lot about the legal process, the Missouri court rules, and the law.

I don't know Mr. Bollinger and maybe he has been able to acquire the necessary knowledge for running the court system on the side while running his bricklaying business. Or maybe Jay Nixon is repaying someone for something.

Huh...imagine that, a Bollinger getting a political position in Bollinger County.

Nick Bollinger is a good man. Let us not forget that THE most important requirement for an elected official is honesty and in this area Nick is well qualified. The Democrat club made a sound judgement in nominating him and Governor Nixon exceercised sound judgement in appointing him. I am confident that Nick will serve Bollinger County well.

In most county offices, the workers know more about what is going on than the office holder.

Right on Howdy! Those hired employees can make ya or break ya. They are the backbone of each department, not the elected politician. Typically i might ad.

Hi, newman90. I guess you're telling me that Mr. Bollinger has the qualifications for the job---familiarity with the courts process, knowledge of the Missouri court rules, knowledge of Missouri law and procedure. If so, that's terrific. I'm surprised the Missourian wouldn't have mentioned something like that.

As Howdy Doody mentioned every office needs a well trained staff and in Mr. Bollinger's case he will have a well trained and knowledgeable staff, and as I stated earlier, Honesty is the best qualification a candidate must possess.

Mr. Bollinger is a honest, hard working man with a good staff to support him. The county is in good hands and Nick will do a good job for the county.
