Redhawks miss OVC tourney with loss to RacersFriday, October 30, 2009The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team was dealt a 1-0 road loss by Murray State on Thursday and an even bigger blow to its season as it fell short of qualifying for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. The loss dropped the Redhawks (7-7-3 overall, 2-3-3 OVC) into a tie for sixth place with Eastern Kentucky, which had acquired the tie-breaker advantage with a victory against Southeast during their regular-season meeting. Kalli McCoy provided the game's only goal for Murray State (8-7-2, 5-2-1) when she deposited a pass from Danielle McMurray at the 17:52 mark. The goal, a team-high fifth for McCoy, was one of two shots taken by the Racers in the half. Southeast had only three shots in the first half, but finished with an 11-7 shot advantage for the game. Southeast goalkeeper Kristen Starkey made two saves. Southeast concludes its season today with a 7 p.m. road game against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Comments |

Man, what a bummer. The girls fought hard all season and they definitely deserved a spot in the tournament, in my opinion. I can't wait until next year to see how all of this year's newcomers play with that experience under their belt. Should be a good season.
Better find some players that can score. I don't care how good or how hard you play....if you can't score, you're not going to win many games.
The early OVC draws at home against EIU and Austin Peay really hurt. Even a win in 1 of those games, and we're in the tourney.
Yeah, those ties did hurt.
They absolutely were the much better team in both of those games, but only scored 1 goal (against EIU) that entire weekend.
I don't care how talented you are, if you can't put the ball in the net, it doesn't matter.
I feel like they had a really talented team, but the combination of newcomers and just not being able to get it done really hurt. Either way, while they didn't make the tournament, I think they still should be proud of what they accomplished. And I must say, I really like how Starkey played in goal.
