HealthGrades honors Southeast Hospital with 7 five-star ratings

Monday, October 26, 2009

Earlier this month Southeast Missouri Hospital earned national certification from the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers for its stroke program.

That program recently was recognized again, along with six others, by HealthGrades, a national independent health care ratings organization. Southeast Missouri Hospital was given a five-star rating -- the highest possible -- for its treatment of pneumonia, carotid surgery, prostatectomy, gastrointestinal procedures and surgeries and treatment of respiratory failure.

The rating places Southeast Missouri Hospital in the top 10 percent for treatment of such conditions.

HealthGrades' study analyzed more than 40 million patient outcomes from 2006 to 2008 in about 5,000 hospitals nationwide. The study found that patients treated at highly rated hospitals such as Southeast Missouri Hospital had a 52 percent lower rate of mortality.

This marks the second year in a row that Southeast Missouri Hospital received a five-star rating for carotid surgery, treatment of pneumonia and stroke.
