The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will honor Cape Girardeau Junior High School choir director Mike Dumey at its annual meeting Oct. 26. Dumey will receive the Dingeldein Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts. The award is given annually and is based on nominations from the public. Dumey is known for his large student productions at the junior high. This summer he also started an independent theater troupe, Starz on the Rise. The group, made up of young actors, has been performing "Godspell." The council will also honor its outgoing president Utahna Hancock with the Maguire Friend of the Arts Award. The program will be at 5 p.m. in the Riverview Room at Buckner Brewing Co. The Jerry Ford Orchestra will perform and there will be a silent auction featuring local artists. Reservations should be made no later than Friday by calling 334-9233 or emailing artscouncil@capearts.org.
