Southeast roundup: Baseball team ready to wrap up fall practice
Sunday, October 11, 2009
The Southeast Missouri State baseball program will conclude fall workouts with its 16th annual Steak and Beans World Series.
The best-of-five intrasquad series begins 5 p.m. Tuesday at Capaha Field.
Other games will be 6 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday, 5 p.m. Oct. 20 and 4 p.m. Oct. 21.
Players on the winning team will be treated to a steak dinner, while the losers will settle for beans.
"This is a great way to wrap up the fall," Southeast coach Mark Hogan said. "Our players really enjoy the competition and it gives our staff time to evaluate our personnel in game simulation."
Basketball on ESPNU
The Southeast men's basketball team again will make at least one national television appearance this season as part of the Ohio Valley Conference's annual television package.
Southeast will play at Eastern Illinois on ESPNU Jan. 9 in an 11 a.m. tipoff from Charleston, Ill.
This year's OVC national TV schedule features 13 games that will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU, including both semifinals and the finals of the OVC tournament.
The only OVC games on ESPN2 are the regular-season contest pitting Murray State at Austin Peay on Jan. 9 and the OVC tournament championship game March 6 from Nashville, Tenn.
Soccer game postponed
Friday's women's soccer game between Southeast and host Murray State was postponed due to heavy rain that made field conditions unplayable.
The OVC contest will be rescheduled at a later date.
Southeast plays today at OVC rival Tennessee-Martin in a 2 p.m. start.
