Car show is big success despite weather

On Sept. 20 the River City Rodders, in conjunction with Old Town Cape, hosted its 32nd annual car show. This was the third year for our show to be in downtown Cape Girardeau, and the feedback from participants and spectators was positive. Not only were the streets full of people checking out the cool cars, but the shops and restaurants were busy as well.

Although the weather this year was better than last year when Hurricane Ike passed through, it was still less than ideal with rain Sunday morning in surrounding areas. Despite this, we feel our show was a big success, with 125 vehicles registered and lots of spectators on hand. We plan on being back next year at the same location on the second Sunday after Labor Day and promise to make our show bigger and better than ever.

The River City Rodders would like to thank all of our corporate sponsors. We would like to extend special thanks to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Old Town Cape for the manpower and logistical assistance they provided and to the local media for helping us get the word out to the community.

Finally, we would like to thank all of the car owners and the spectators who attend our show despite the threatening weather. We encourage them to come back next year when our local weatherman has promised the skies will be blue with highs in the 70s and low humidity.

DANNY ESSNER, Car Show Chairman, River City Rodders, Cape Girardeau
