hey grandma,

At least there not out doing drugs or steeling.

Don't pass judgement on the kids you do not know.

Grandma is jealous because she can not have a guitar hero.

First off, the First Place Winner in the Jr. Div. Nate Prince is actually from Jackson. And with all due respect grandma 72... He happens to be a straight A student, who is extrememly gifted. He also plays 3 sports, and has broken 13 year records in Jackson. He has also been a first place wrestler several years, and has been a baseball All Star player, and been on traveling teams. He is most likely more fit, and intellegent than you may be. Have a fabulous day, I am sorry you didnt win the competition Grandma72. (:

My son was also in the Guitar Hero Contest at the fair. These kids (boys AND girls) were there having good, clean fun. Grandma72's comments were very rude and judgemental and SHE is the one that needs to get a life! SHAME ON YOU!

lol get a life? she's not the one whose kids are sitting in front of the television mastering how to push colorful buttons on a fake instrument. Wonder how good they'd be if they spent that time learning a real instruments. No one said they were bad kids, I just think that it's comical the paper thinks it's newsworthy. Like it's an amazing talent they're displaying.

To Grandma72... that's MY grandson you are referring to. He has an AMAZING life and amazing talent all around. Diverse interest, more intelligent (legit genius IQ), has ALWAYS excelled in school. Just b/c he enjoys AND excels in video games does NOT make him "not have a life".

To Cap_Anson - It's as newsworthy as any other event at the fair. I'd much rather see positive things in the media than negative.

I'm proud of you Nate!!!

To Cap - Forgot to mention, FYI, Nate DOES play real guitar, has keyboard and drums as well. Indeed, a very gifted young man!!!

TMAC, I think that's great because your grandson obviously has talents and applies them to productive things on more occasions than a good number of his peers. While not singling him out, there are unfortunately a good number of his peers with similar talents that unfortunately have not been realized because a good portion of their day is dedicated to video games. I wish your grandson well and hope he continues on his road to success.

Yes the winner, my gorgeous son, plays acoustic guitar very well actually. He is teaching his step father how to play as we speak... We are all a very musical family. I actually dont like video games, and dont allow him to play very many. However, ALL of the current games relating to music, have given him an appreciation for some really good classics and the artist who created them. He loves the Beatles! He also loves Phantom of the Opera, he is a very well rounded young man.. And one thing the newspaper didnt happen to report is that he actually GAVE AWAY the first place prize and traded the younger boy who won second for his much smaller prize. So not only is he gifted musically, intellectually, and athletically, he is also very giving and generous, with a very sweet soul, and loves people. I cant really find anything wrong with that!

Wow, okay, okay, okay. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

My, how times have changed. When I was young it was books reading, working the farm, then sports and actual music if time allowed. I always thought that kids getting good a video game was a complete and utter waste of time.

Way to go kids. I look forward to seeing you all play your music somewhere someday.
