I drove on the stretch of William Street that was resurfaced at night and thought something was wrong with my vehicle or my tires. It was like going over corn ridges. I'm definitely against doing this kind of work at night if that's the example of the result.
Further left
REGARDING the Sept. 3 article about U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson: Emerson has been leaning further and further to the left. She's getting away from her conservative roots. I know she has to vote her conscience, but if she wants to be a Democrat, she should claim to be a Democrat. If people wonder what is wrong with the Republican Party, she is a perfect example. We have gotten away from our conservative roots in an effort to appease people.
Bikes on the road
I'M going east on Broadway. There are three bicycle riders in front of me. All three of them have run two red lights. They have not obeyed any kind of traffic signal. Now you tell me I have to pay attention to these careless bicycle riders? Get serious. Either make them obey the rules or get them off the road.
Tax code
IT'S interesting to note that the U.S. Tax Code in 1913 had only 14 pages. Now it exceeds 64,000 pages. That's part of the problem with our country's financial problems.
Helping out
I witnessed another example of good people in this world. An elderly woman was checking out at a store and needed a few dollars to pay her bill. She was so embarrassed that she didn't have enough money. A man said, "Here, ma'am, I'll pay it." Thank you, sir, for being the warrior that you are and what you did for this woman. It impressed us all. You're a good man.
President's speech
PRESIDENT Obama is doing his best regardless of the responsibilities he has taken on. I've always taken time to listen to speeches, no matter what party they represent. The speech backlash among parents was narrow-minded. The president's speech to students was is a wonderful opportunity to hear our president. I am a teacher, and I want our students to have the privilege of listening to the president.
Stop pretending
LET'S stop pretending this is "Leave It to Beaver" and realize that most poor do not choose to be, and many attempting to survive on Social Security planned ahead but lost their money in the bad economy. Others are disabled and did not have a chance to plan ahead. We deserve decent health care. I worked in health care many years, and now I can't afford a flu shot. That's wrong. I had to choose this month between paying rent and having a tooth pulled. Which would you choose?
Big question
GLEN Beck, in his book "Common Sense," has an excellent recommendation: "One day we will face our children and grandchildren as they ask us what we found more important and valuable than freedom. They will ask if our big, unaffordable homes, free universal health care, and buy-it-now lifestyle were worth enslaving them for. How will you answer?"

Further Left ... This actually might be considered a 'good thing,' which more politicians should probably be doing ... like the 'Blue Dog Democrats.' In the best interests of the people and our country, strict adherence to the beliefs or dictates of either party should be tempered with some amount of common sense, honesty (as in conscience), and voting for what their constituents want, rather than what their party wants. That's pretty much what I expect from my politicians ... I do not believe our government was meant to be Party-governed ... nor do I believe that the average American is so totally dedicated to his/her party's dictates that they agree with everything that party 'stands for.'
Tax Code ... Absolutely correct. But ... with hundreds more departments and 10's of 1,000's more employees in government ... Guess everything just sort of grew accordingly?
James! Was so surprised to discover that Economics in One Lesson was first published in 1946! Just finished reading 'The Broken Window,' and that was super ... still, even after reading that, some would dispute the philosophy or not be able to relate it to actual events. Thanks so much!
Some how, the mention of Glen Beck, and common sense in the same breath, (not to mention sanity), just doesn't compute.
Glenn Beck is an idiot he joins the ranks of the far right wingers who are making every attempt to divide this country even more than what it is already. Add him to the radical list of Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin and Savage. They pump this crap in to our society every day so they can make millions and millions of dollars every day for them not you for them.
swampeastmissouri,
In all fairness the Left have their fair share of people wanting to divide the country more then it already is. Moore comes to mind.
Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't listen to any of them and only pay attention when someone mentions them in a post. So are we adding to their viewership, hense their makeing of millions?? Because they wouldn't be making it if people weren't listening. Doesn't mean everyone that listens to them agrees with them obviously, but viewership = money.
Good thoughts, Pups. Nothing wierd about not listening to what actually is pretty much 'biased opinion' from so-called 'experts' whose main interests are money, with probably a certain amount of egoism thrown in.
What was the old saying? Something about it's okay to 'follow the herd but you should watch closely where you're stepping ...'
Pups: The problem is it is dividing this country more and more each day. In order for us to succeed we must be United and reach common ground that both sides can live with. Some of these talk show people just keep adding fuel to the fire for there personal gain and it is nearly causing a riot and we all are better people than that, we are americans and we must set the example to the world. There is not a problem one we can not resolve by civil and solid debate but what I have seen in the month of August at these town hall meetings were no doubt unbelievable and the conduct of some of these people and the way they acted should have warranted an arrest. We are just better people than what our conduct here recently have shown, and I feel like these radical talk show host have been a major contributor to setting this firestorm off. Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Palin, Savage and Obermann need to tone it down and instead of preaching negatism all the time step forward and help solve some of these issues facing this country but do it in a civil manner and set an example. No doubt the press has created a lot of this mess we are currently in. UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL
I don't listen to talk radio and view all this similarly to Pups.
I believe that people listen to Hannity et al because their beliefs are the same and don't believe any of them are changing anyone's mind or behavior. Essentially they are preaching to the amen choir.
I don't really buy into the "united we stand divided we fall" philosophy as in some situations, the majority is not always right, no pun intended and someone has to be the "voice of reason" so to speak regardless of your political leanings. I think as a people we let ourselves be stampeded into a little more than we should after 9/11 as we have at other points in time.
swampeastmissouri,
I can see your point. I personally see them all as 'shock jocks' and most tune in to see what off the wall thing they are going to say next. And, yes it seems a majority of people take what they say as gospel (both sides).
Find it funny that depending on who is in office determines who is being unfair to who. The Right claimed the media was too hard or unfair to Bush. And now the Left is saying the media is too hard or unfair to Obama. And by media I am meaning all those you mentioned. Though depending on your belief they aren't media, but entertainers/comedians/editorialist.
Maybe if we all took a step back, reviewed the source, took a breath, tried to realize what was factual and what was a 'ratings grabber' we might not have the discourse we have now.
I mean seriously, how can Reps. and Dems. be both out to create a New World Order and be the protectors of the American Way? Both Parties have claimed the other to be NWO while they are AW. And it has changed depending on who is in the majority/minority. Shouldn't that mean they are working together and we shouldn't have all the disputes we've had?
Ok, got up too early and maybe not making sense. Or maybe I have the wrong color sunglasses on today??? lol
i think maybe the American empire is falling .....i gotta admit i have never listened to any of those radio talk folks -- i've always believed Rush was no more then a polished turd -- so i can't comment one way to the other about them .
remember when Made in America meant something ?
Great post at 2:26 PM, BN!
Yours made sense to me, Pups.
Is there anything still totally made in America, Rick? Heck, even much of our fruits and vegetables are grown in other countries!
Maybe we need to forget that, I am a Democrat and I am a Republican mentality and remember we are all in this together. And we better watch what the hired hands in Washington are doing to our nation the last 50 years or so. They are turning us into a welfare mentality.
I admit, I love Sean Hannity!
That guy is funny as hell!
I listen everyday on my way home from work. I enjoy arguing with my radio.
Ever seen "Bad Lieutenant"? He loses a bet on a Mets game and shoots the radio out of his unmarked police car.
I feel like that guy everyday!
As a bike rider, I apologize for the idiots that do not obey traffic rules.
But as a driver, will you apologize for all of the drivers that run red lights and potentially put people in harm's way?
I didn't think so.
I make no apologies. ☻
Add him to the radical list of Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin and Savage.

Palin??????? You guys are scared to death of her aren't you. Try Neal Boortz. He will hammer them all.
Palin is nothing but a joke on Saturday Night Live
why would anyone take her serious ?

I'm more than willing if you are, Wheels! ~laughing~ Now all we have to do is convince Pops ... among others?
Just don't remember, in school, learning that our government was supposed to meet all our needs ... personal, financial or otherwise.
Turnip!!!! Where have you been? I was getting concerned! Really ...
Everyone pretty much knows that I don't, Rick ... although she may at some point in the future be a 'force to be reckoned with' ... Aw, geez ... I hope I don't have to choose again between a Palin and an Obama in 2012! Now that IS scary ... unless Obama and crew get their acts straightened out before then ... and somehow I don't see that happening.
