Reservations about Obama

Recently, Rick Lettau presented a well-reasoned affirmation of President Obama. I agree with several of his points, especially when he points out Iraq was not a security threat. However, as a conservative (not to be confused with Republican), I have reservations about Obama's actions.

I was disappointed when he appointed Timothy Geitner, an admitted tax cheat, as the head of the IRS.

Obama's attorney general, Eric Holder, dropped charges against a Republican senator for taking bribes but insists on prosecuting CIA agents defending this country. Why is waterboarding the foreign mastermind of a plot that killed 3,000 Americans an issue for anyone?

Obama approved an "emergency" stimulus bill that won't be spent until just before the 2010 re-election of congressional incumbents.

He reappointed Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve chief when Bernanke was responsible for the global economic meltdown and unnecessary bank bailout.

I was disillusioned when Obama gave Congress a very short timeline (end of July) to legislate control of health care without careful analysis.

Obama implied police in Cambridge, Mass., were racist but remained silent when Scotland sent the Lockerbie bomber back to Libya for a hero's welcome.

I do appreciate that Obama kept us out of the Iranian election debacle and that he has changed strategy in Afghanistan. I applaud his goal of energy independence, but drilling for oil here and using American coal should be in the mix.

Please don't label Obama critics as closed-minded. We need not disparage each other in our search for solutions.
