Rouse improves to 51-0, will wrestle for state title

Jackson senior Cody Rouse will attempt to capture his first state wrestling title today after winning a 2-1 double overtime decision over Bret Marshall of Liberty in the semifinals Friday night at the state wrestling meet at the Hearnes Center in Columbia.
Rouse improved to 51-0 and will face Cameron Harms of Blue Springs in the finals today. Rouse finished second last year at 145 pounds.
Jackson junior Kamden Rampley came up short in the semifinals, losing an 8-0 major decision to defending state champion Louis Caputo of Blue Springs at 189 pounds. Caputo is 51-0.
Jackson's other semifinalist, senior Andy Glass, lost a 6-2 decision to Dom Bradley of Blue Springs.
Jackson freshman Jamie Schumacher advanced to the third round of wrestlebacks with a 6-5 decision over Robby Brooks of Francis Howell North. Fellow Indian freshman Justin Miller lost an 8-3 decision to Oakville's Darrin Green and was eliminated.
Glass and Rampley will wrestles fourth round wresltebacks today to determine whether they wrestle for third of fifth place.
Garrett New, the last Central Tiger left alive on Friday, was eliminated in the second round of wrestlebacks. New lost a 15-6 major decision to Kevin King of Farmington.
Jackson was in eight place with 44 points after the semifinals.
