TV needs more decent viewing

To the editor:

If Janet Jackson thinks the vulgar and indecent stunt she pulled at the Super Bowl last year increased her chance of remaining a popular entertainer, she has a lot more thinking to do. Her intentional vulgarity has not been forgotten, nor will it ever. Shame and disgust are all she can claim. No credit is every given for actions such as that. There is some good in everyone. I am sure that is true of Janet Jackson also.

Many of today's youths act in bizarre ways. The Bible state, "Train a child in the way he should go. When he is old, he will not turn away from it." Sometimes parents are as much to blame as their children, however.

The Parents Television Council recently expressed disappointment in the fact that despite the objection by most of the media, "Without a Trace" continues to be the culprit in destroying good television viewing. If it means that much to the television industry to hold to the whims of the young generation in order to keep the ratings high, as well as to increase its payroll, it certainly shows the industry has lost its sense of dignity and human respect.

Sometimes people profit from their mistakes. Perhaps the television industry, in time, will do the same and return to moral, beautiful and relaxing viewing again. I sincerely hope and pray for that return to be soon.
