Man leads Kennett police on high-speed chase

KENNETT, Mo. -- An individual fled from Kennett police Thursday, exceeding speeds of 60 mph down city streets. According to Maj. Steve Williams, officer Brian Long initiated the contact with the driver while trying to pull the vehicle over for speeding in the 25 mph speed zone. The suspect, a 38-year-old man from Yazoo City, Miss., fled from Long. A chase began, winding through several city streets. The chase came to an end as the suspect struck Long's patrol car. Following the collision, officers were able to arrest the suspect without further incident, according to Williams. There were no injuries due to the incident and the patrol car only received minor damage, Williams noted. The suspect was being held in the Dunklin County Jail waiting the filing of formal charges. The individual's name is being withheld until charges have been filed.
