Lightning reason for Saturday evening power outage

A lightning strike was the reason for a power outage to about 3,600 AmerenUE customers Saturday evening. AmerenUE spokesman Mike Cleary said that at 9:17 p.m. lightning struck the building that houses control equipment at the company's Clark substation near Clark and New Madrid streets. Cleary said power was restored to the area by 11 p.m., though some customers had electricity by 10:15 p.m.
