Michael C. "Mike" Halter, 54, of Jackson passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Monticello House in Jackson. Michael was surrounded by his loving family and friends, just as he had been since 2003 when he received the diagnosis of semantic dementia.
Mike had been one of Jehovah's Witnesses since July 1978, and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Jackson since 1982.
He was born Jan. 10, 1955, in Cape Girardeau to Andrew and Theresa Tucker Halter Sr. He was a 1973 graduate of Chaffee High School. On March 28, 1980, he and Trisha Kidd were united in marriage in Advance, Mo.
Mike worked more than 30 years as the assistant secretary-treasurer for the Little River Drainage District in Cape Girardeau.
In addition to his devoted wife of 29 years, Mike is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stefanie and Eric Walker and their daughter, Kiley, of Ste. Genevieve, Mo. The family is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the second grandchild in November.
Also surviving are two siblings, Judy (Bill) Tankersley of Delta, Andrew (Mary Ann) Halter Jr., of Sikeston, Mo.; many nieces, nephews; and a worldwide congregation of brothers and sisters.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Halter Sr.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. July 18 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Jackson, 1250 County Road 318 (off Highway 25).
Arrangements are by McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
