ADVANCE, Mo. -- Herman Edward Umfleet, 85, of Marshfield, Mo., passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Webco Manor in Marshfield.

He was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Painton, Mo., son of Lawrence Henry and Irene Gunter Umfleet. He and Jewell Arlene Fowler were married Dec. 22, 1944. He and Jewell were lifelong residents of Advance until moving to Marshfield in 2006 to be closer to their family.

Herman retired as a pipe­fitter from St. Louis Local 562. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Advance.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell; a son, David and wife Vickie Umfleet of Marshfield; a daughter, Sharon Wilson of Springfield, Mo.; two granddaughters, Jill Davis and husband Doug of Marshfield, Lindsy Scott and husband Mike of Nixa, Mo.; four great-granddaughters, Ashton, Mollie and Kyndall Davis, all of Marshfield, and Samantha Scott of Nixa.

Also five brothers, Bill, Don, Richard, Michael and Dennis Umfleet; three sisters, Thelma Gavel, Vickie Phelps and Sue Ann Thompson; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Mildred Harness, Bill and Dorothy Jones, Robert and Gaynell Fowler, and Ralph and Dean Fowler.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Friday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
