PP potholes

I'VE been driving through the same potholes on Route PP near Kelso for the past three years. They started out the size of a pie pan. Now they're the size of a bathtub. If you meet a car you have to pull off the road so only the left tires get knocked out of alignment. Surely with all the yellow trucks and orange cones the Missouri Department of Transportation has strewn up and down the highway, it could put one person on the road to look for potholes.

Neglected airport

ABANDONED? With no cuts in city employees or services, why is it our airport has recently developed a musty, unused, abandoned look with grass growing up between cracks all up and down the runways and taxiways and with weeds growing a foot high all across in front of hangar doorways? It's that sort of well-worn, threadbare, abandoned, broken-windows Cairo look. Why have our mayor and council members stopped caring about the all-important first impressions of our gateway visitors? Or is it we can't afford to cut the grass?

Thanks to Bush

TARP is working, but is not because of President Obama. President Bush is the one who got TARP started. He is the one you should be giving credit to. Obama keeps saying he inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression. I'll tell you what he inherited: America, the greatest country God gave Earth, the ability to make money and create business to make our dreams come true. Quit blaming Bush. This is your economy now, President Obama. Start taking responsibility.

Happy Juneteenth everyone.

Now I lay me down to sleep.

Yikes! This sianide nerve has me up!

PP potholes: PP Potholes? LOL! Well, I would have made a funny here, but unfortunately I am familiar with this road.

Neglected airport: Oh Good Grief, We don't have that much traffic there! Just build my Junior College there and be done with it!

Thanks to Bush: LOL!

Is that it?? LOL!

-- Posted by Megalomania on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 12:33 AM

I've never understood the Juneteenth thing. The Emancipation Proclamation did NOT end slavery. It only freed slaves in states in rebellion. It was still perfectly legal to own a slave in Missouri, Illinois, Maryland and several Parishes in southern Louisiana that did not go along with secession. Slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution that was proposed on Jan. 31 and enacted on Dec. 6 1865. And for some reason Emancipation Day is celebrated in many areas of the country including my home state of Kentucky on Aug. 8th, a date for which I can find no historical significance, instead of June 19th.

Does anyone know if our state legislatures get their health insurance paid for by the state when they are not officially in session? Also, what is Nathan Cooper's status since his release? Stupid questions I know...just curious.

-- Posted by howdydoody on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 6:00 AM

Ask her why she thinks it OK to throw her Grandmother in a nursing home for no reason other than she is a hassle. She still thinks she is getting her inheritance. If I were her granny I would give it to SEMO for a fountain.

Just curious as to their benefits as I have known some who quit to take other jobs; been quite a few years ago though.

RE: Thanks to Bush - Here are some more "accomplishments" that we can thank GW Bush for...

The Patriot Act

NCLB

Dept of Homeland Security

The first round of auto maker bailouts

The "War on Terror"

I agree with the waterhead that wrote this comment. TARP One is working exactly as planned.

On a more interesting note. Here is a link to an article about the ACLU lawsuit against the TSA regarding their un-Constitutional detainment of The Campaign For Liberty's Steven Bierfeldt in St Louis this past March.

Just_Me,

I am somewhat surprised at your question being a man of the world and all and guessing you still are married to your first wife. I have been with my wife for over forty-five years and the correct answer is, whatever your wife's are/is. Payment ca be made in the form of a money order or pay pal...

-- Posted by TripleS on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 8:31 AM

Hey Lumpy. Bush also gave us these wonderful pieces of legislation.

1. The Military Commissions Act which makes

everyone potential terrorists

2. The Bankruptcy Act in 2005 ( Could it be that

they knew in 2005 that the market was going to

crash in a few years and millions of people

would declare bankruptcy and they had to save

the bankers and credit card companies at the

expense of the public? Nawh. That would be a

conspiracy theory.

3. The Medicare Prescription Act ( You must hate

old people if you oppose this monstrosity

right? )

4. The Farm bill in 2002 to help the corporate

farm cartel which gives us all of that

nutritious genetically modified "food".

Good morning! ☻

PP potholes...there are potholes everywhere that need attention, it is a never ending task!

Neglected airport.....ok, is this caller clueless or what?

Thanks to Bush....I will agree America is a great country. ☻

PP Potholes: The real state of the state.

Neglected airport: Replace weeds with weed that has commercial appeal, and it will be harvested.

Thanks to Bush: For what?

TripleS, yep, married to the love of my life, & we are both more than happy with everything with which we have been "endowed". It was just something that popped up in a conversation. I thought it might make for some titilating discussion on a Friday morn...

-- Posted by Just__Me on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:20 AM

Does anyone actually use our airport? I've always thought the whole thing a waste of taxpayer dollars. I wonder how much of our money it takes per passenger to maintain it?

-- Posted by Just__Me on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:21 AM

Data,

The following is a portion of an e-mail I received yesterday and thought it interesting:

By Frances Rice

As we celebrate Juneteenth, also know as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, it is fitting that we pause to recognize the origin of this important part of our African American heritage.

June 19th marks the day in 1865 when word reached blacks in Texas that slavery in the United States had been abolished. More than two years earlier, on January 1, 1863, Republican President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

Delivered during the American Civil War, this proclamation ordered the freeing of all slaves in states that were rebelling against Union forces. The proclamation had little effect in Texas, where there were few Union troops to enforce the order.

News of the proclamation officially reached Texas on June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger, backed by nearly 2,000 troops, arrived in the city of Galveston and publicly announced that slavery in the United States had ended. Republicans had passed the Thirteenth Amendment on January 31, 1865 that was ratified on December 6, 1865 to abolish slavery in the United States.

Reactions among newly freed slaves ranged from shock and disbelief to jubilant celebration. That day has been known ever since as Juneteenth, a name probably derived from the slang combination of the words June and nineteenth.

Old fuddy duddies.

-- Posted by Just__Me on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:36 AM

It's a shame that you trying to have an engaging and stimulating discussion and garner honest opinion about something that God created & it gets deleted.

I suppose we'll have to FARM the question out in another venue.

-- Posted by Just__Me on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:38 AM

Data,

Another thought.

It was my understanding, if I remember correctly, that Missouri did secede from the Union but that Lincoln imposed, what I suppose they called at the time, Marshall Law and removed the elected legislature from Jefferson City. The elected legislature then more or less conducted an "underground government" in Carthage.

The above is from memory and could be somewhat in error, since I read this some years back. Correct me if I am wrong or forgetting some of the facts.

-- Posted by Have_Wheels_Will_Travel on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:41 AM

The timing of the flights has always been a problem & layovers at STL would be longer than what it takes me to drive up there or back. Our family has used Cape airport twice & had problems returning both times. One time we said forget it, rented a car, & drove home. Plus, I don't get on anything that doesn't have a bathroom (pay or free, but it needs a toilet).

Cycle, I thougtht that line of conversation would be better than the regular moaning about Rice, Obamallah, historic building preservation, & the like. A little light-hearted fun would be more arousing of my interest than the usual complaining. After all, it is Friday.

-- Posted by Just__Me on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:47 AM

Yeah, some of it fell into place quite nicely, too.

Here is another reason to end those unnecessary immoral and costly wars. The rate of alcohol abuse treatment has nearly doubled in 6 years for the military. Suicide rates are steadily increasing. http://www.usatoday.com/news/military/20...

Multiple tours of duty are taking a dangerous toll on the mental and physical health of some in the military. Post traumatic stress disorder PTSD and traumatic brain injury TBI show no outward scars but take a tremendous toll on mental health. Unfortunately some of these brain injured vets are being hired in police departments across the country.

There has been an explosion of police abuse of the public across the country as evidenced by dozens of You Tube videos. Those out of control cops are treating our citizens like the enemy. I'm concerned that many of those brain damaged cops will get even more aggressive with the public when ordered to do so by their bosses who are told what to do by this fascist government.

Of course most of the returning vets are stable. And most of the vets /cops are not out of control, but we need to stop the wars and not add to the vets who are. http://www.policeone.com/police-products...

I agree with what you say S.D. about Obama. He did promise to end the wars yet he sends thousands of more troops to Afghanistan. The dems are big time hypocrits. War is bad when a repub is in office and good when a dem is. The democrat party is no different than the repubs as far as war is concerned. In fact Democrats have started more wars than Republicans.

This continuation of the wars shows that both political parties are just glorified whor*s for the fascist system. I don't know what it will take to finally convince most of the people that all government officials at the highest levels work for the same banker masters instead of the people.

Until the public figures out that we are being scammed by BOTH parties, out of our money, freedoms, and most importantly for some, their lives in wars for profit, we will continue to live Groundhog Day.

All of this proves that elections, the way they are now are rigged now, are pretty much useless.

-- Posted by gurusmom on Fri, Jun 19, 2009, at 9:17 PM

I don't think it will change either G-mom, but I will keep trying as I know you will. It will take a miracle to wake enough people up in time. The global elite are going into hyper-drive to implement their plans. They are getting real nervous about the people who have woken up.

I understand why people can't believe they are being lied to constantly by the politicians and the media. We have all lived a lifetime of propaganda from every direction. Most people believe that they control their own lives but they really don't.

We have all been programmed like little lab rats through advertising and other propaganda. We basically live in a scientific dictatorship now. The worst kind of slavery is when a slave thinks he is free. He will never try to escape.
