Help available for less fortunate

To the editor:

It is not fair to say that liberals are responsible for everything good in our society and conservatives are against it all and have been brainwashed to ignore the malnourished, poorly educated and homeless children among us.

There are many ongoing programs to help the poor. There are grants and scholarships for education, freed medical care through Medicaid, free clinics for shots and help for unwed mothers before and after their babies are born. Schools have free breakfast and lunch available for low-income children, and there are food stamps.

I don't know who started these programs, but they have not been dismantled by uncaring conservatives. The conservatives I know have been supporting such programs for years and do many things individually and through their churches to help the less fortunate. They don't go around patting themselves on the back for all they do.

Help is available for the poor in our country. It takes both liberals and conservatives to see that it is always there.
