Car crashes through front of Dexter, Mo., businessFriday, June 12, 2009
DEXTER, Mo. Customers inside The Launderer on One Mile Road just after 5 p.m. Wednesday were literally shaken up, but no one was hurt when a Lincoln Town Car came crashing into the Dexter facility. The car took out concrete blocks, bricks and the plate glass window in the front of the building. Driver Betty Yount, 81, of Bloomfield, Mo., said that in more than 64 years of driving she never had an accident before this one. A visibly shaken Yount said at the scene that she was parked in front of the building and was about to leave the parking lot when her foot slipped from the brake to the accelerator, sending her car through the brick wall and window. The building sustained extensive damage.

Ohh I guess I better refrain from responding to this too. I wouldn't want to offend anyone. I'm sure there's a good excuse for it.
This is getting ridiculous... If I said it once, I've said it a million times. MANDATORY DRIVERS TEST at 70 years old.
Mega, Just imagine if this lady, GOD FORBID, had killed one of those children. Do you think she woulda been charged with involuntary manslaughter, probably not. Had that been a 35 year old man and he had killed a child, and offered the same LAME excuse (my foot slipped off the brake), he'd most certainly be shipped off to the big house.
The elderly sure do seem to have some uncontrollable feet. "my foot slipped" seems to ALWAYS be the excuse
If your foot slips from the brake onto the accelerator and go you forward the car is in Drive and not in reverse.
Interesting, excellent point.
Elderly drivers are notorious for these types of accidents. They get confused, and it's only a matter of time before someone is critically injured.
Myself I think everyone should take the test every 10 years.

Excellent Idea
Producer,
Shame on you! If I would have said that I would have been a villian. How do you pull it off man? Give me your secret.
I think Megalomaia has a complex. Maybe it is his picture.
Seniors must have slippery feet. That explains why some use a cane. Don't get me wrong I've seen seniors drive safely and efficiently before but a lot of these freak accidents fall into a certain age group and I agree with drivers tests.
Her foot must also weigh quite alot, since it appears the car didn't just roll into the building. She "took out concrete blocks, bricks and the plate glass window," so she obviously pressed down heavily on the accelerator.
I'm much younger but have made the mistake of having the car in drive instead of reverse and pressing the accelerator, but I had enough sense to hit the brake before I moved six inches.
Give me your secret.

Im young, dumb and dont give a Shi.t i guess
You dummies, Ford products have been known to race ahead for no known reason, see Chaffee news today, a red Mercury crashed into a business today, this was a Lincoln Town Car that crashed into the laundromat.
Seniors must have slippery feet.

It must be the Ben Gay melting in the heat of the day and running down those legs and onto the shoes.
Ugh that was hard for me to write about that visual.

Yes they race ahead when someone pushes down on the accelerator.
In the 4 ford vehicles (one being a crown vic) I have owned and still currently drive one not once have I had any race ahead unless my foot was on the gas.
If she can't handle the beast under the hood maybe a bike is in their future.
gamn, I owned a Mercury, I was a lot younger than these folks, car raced ahead in PARK<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Geezers- terrorists of the roadways
gman,
A bike? Come on man, haven't you seen the "hover'round" commercials? Those old folks love it.
If you are limited by your mobility....because you just ran your car through a store, medicaid may be able to get you your very own hover'round at little to no cost to you.
Why no tickets? Can this not be considered careless and imprudent?

You have a good point. I have seen them advertised. I bet they could lay a black mark on the pavement.
