Bike lanes

I'M tired of the bicycle debate. Bikes are always going to be allowed on the road. Drivers, pay attention and watch out for bikes on the road. Cyclists, beware of cars on the roads and obey all traffic laws as you are supposed to. Mutual respect can go a long way. It is Missouri law that drivers must share the road with bikes. If drivers want bicycles off the roadways, help us get bike lanes. If I remember correctly, the city designated $34,000 for bike lanes on major roads in Cape Girardeau. The only effort I have seen is the two signs between Gordonville and Cape Girardeau that designated the shoulder of the road a bike lane. Did the two signs cost $34,000?

On the run

LOCAL criminals probably do not read the newspaper, but they should look at the pictures of Sgt. Kevin Orr running with other policemen. I happen to know that Kevin can run 10 miles without stopping. If he has some Gatorade and the right clothes, Kevin can run 26 miles. He has out-sprinted me at the end of a race, and he can outrun most criminals.

No dialogue

CAPE Girardeau officials have said that one good thing coming out of the homeless shelter controversy is increased community dialogue concerning the plight of the homeless. Give me a break. There is no such thing as a dialogue. There are only intersecting monologues. The opposite of talking is not listening. It is waiting.

Enough fighting

Scott City must get a handle on the bullying and the fighting, whether it is boys, girls or adults. When will the majority of good citizens stand up and yell,"Enough is enough"?

War on fat cats

Mike Jensen is so busy reading material for his columns (I often see him reading while drinking sodas and driving a golf cart) he occasionally misses the point of the article, book or column he is reading. For example, he recently criticized the government for declaring a war on fat. This is not true. Although Jensen might be equally vociferous in going off on the government, the fact is that the government has declared war on fat cats.

What now?

Your photos of vacant buildings clearly portrayed the problem, but what's the solution? Are you going to look into that as well?

Small shelter

AS a hospital employee I can tell you there are many homeless people in Cape Girardeau. I do not believe that the federal building is the right choice for a shelter, but Cape Girardeau could use a small center for those in our community who are down on their luck.

Looking ahead

I keep hearing about different organizations and governments running out of money. What are the people who supposed to be in charge doing? They should be looking ahead and making adjustments instead of waiting until they're out of money. This is the way too many people manage their lives. They wait until they're so deep in debt not much can be done about it.

..i have come to the belief that if there are homeless people in Cape , or Jackson , they are like waterbugs and stay in the dark where no one can see or find them ...i took a ride last nite to see if any homeless came out when it was dark ....yep , i saw two , both in Cape

now if they are like waterbugs , when you see two , there's fifty more hiding somewhere until you spray and get rid of them ...

so the answer to the homeless question may be loading the fifty or more on a bus and let Rev.Rice take them to his better , established , homeless shelter in St.Louis....

-- Posted by *Rick* on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 8:51 AM

Rick, one of two things are happening here, I believe. 1) Someone forgot to tell these folks that the shelter idea did not pan out or 2)someone is leading them this way. I took a trip to St. Louis yesterday and seen a few traveling south. I have noticed some around town as well. Best thing the police can do is keep doing what they have always done, take them to the city limits & drop them off, perhaps with a few bucks.

btw, I conquered my fear and went back to the zoo, happy to report I was not attacked by any crazy ars tigers. ☻

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 9:00 AM

Turnip....

those tigers and animals at the zoo are more afraid of you then you are of them...

-- Posted by *Rick* on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 9:47 AM

Rick, whatever, dude. Tell that to the three boys who were tracked/mauled at the CA zoo!

JUMEMY, homeless.

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 9:54 AM

JUMEMY, I have no idea what your point has to do with my point, which was the homeless in the area have increased alot over the past couple of weeks but whatever. btw, I am considered a minority so watch it buddy! ☻ oh, btw2x: not a Rambo fan.

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 10:38 AM

Actually the book was pretty good and quite a bit different than the movie.

-- Posted by TripleS on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 10:43 AM

if they rounded up Turnip they'd bring her back in no time!

seriously , i don't see how minorities and homeless go together at this point and time..it's two different things , two different arguements ..

-- Posted by *Rick* on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 11:07 AM

JUMEMY, it is not my proposed solution, that's what the CGPD do, or at least what they did. I was just saying keep doing it. I have no fears of being rounded up. Perhaps branded, proded or gagged, but not rounded up! lol

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 12:26 PM

Cycle, one could only hope the majority of people do not think like you. ☻

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 12:30 PM

What check?

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 12:40 PM

Cycle, we have already beat this dog. No.

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 1:13 PM

I may be misreading this, but how is a Social Security check related to a minority or unique to Obama?

-- Posted by TripleS on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 1:21 PM

TriplS

If you reeive SS you should have received a notice some weeks back that said you would receive $250 due to Obama signing something or other.

-- Posted by Have_Wheels_Will_Travel on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 1:35 PM

Just

It didn't say that in so mny words, but the PS was definitely there between the lines.

-- Posted by Have_Wheels_Will_Travel on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 1:42 PM

Wheels,

OK, now I understand; thought it was in reference to regular SS checks. The other check is just like the "stimulus" check we all got and fixed the economy.

-- Posted by TripleS on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 1:51 PM

TriplS

Don't you feel better now that everything is fixed?

-- Posted by Have_Wheels_Will_Travel on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 2:45 PM

JUMEMY, why do u insist on associating me with your debate about racial profiling, I wasn't even part of that dialogue, u bonehead!

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 2:46 PM

I finally did it! Check out my thread. btw, sorry JUMEMY, it slipped out! ☻

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 3:01 PM

Just-Me-and-My-Opinion: The government wanted to tax our health-care benefits and retirements back in the 1980's. It failed to materialise. Tax increases are especially troubling in these economic conditions.

-- Posted by James Nall on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 4:06 PM

Socialism,

Is this one of Cape's (old original street walkers?) You know...the three: Nuts, Butts (Cigbuts) and Crazy? Or was this a NEWBIE? Any confirmation on him being actually homeless?

Something very strange is happening here. I haven't had a chance to mention it yet, but a friend of mine had a homeless woman come in his place of business around 8:30am this morning. (I'm serious) Anyone else have anything today?

We may need to put out an APB, and prepare for a blackout. Rice may have sent out his homeless scouts to layout ground work before the big invasion. Be vigilant! The hour is upon us!

-- Posted by Megalomania on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 4:26 PM

SD:

Where would you be today if mommy and daddy had not handed you a business? You might have been the one with the 44oz soda. I agree with you on your previous post saying you are a minority. You are one of the 46% who voted for John and Sarah. That does put you in the minority.

-- Posted by howdydoody on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 4:34 PM

BiggotDog is Megalomania alter ego...

-- Posted by *Rick* on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 5:10 PM

JMMO:

Were you asleep the last eight years? Looks like you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth by the way you mock homeless and less fortunate people. I look forward to your irrational rebuttal soon.

-- Posted by howdydoody on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 5:48 PM

Just_Me_and_My_Opinion & Socialism_Destroys,

Thanks for the information. Now I'm curious if all their citation procedures are manual (paper/pen...someone else doing the data entry)?

Given the capabilities of today's technology, what you have described seems wasteful.

-- Posted by Me'Lange on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 6:07 PM

Bethie...

"Gardening nudists claim landlord discrimination"

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/U...

hehe...Someone is doing some extreme gardening again. If you are reading, hope little Daegus is doing well. I miss your post.

-- Posted by Me'Lange on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 6:16 PM

Socialism_Destroys,

Supposing my point, IF the "entire" system were manual then no surprise the racial record keeping is manual also. I'd still be surprised if all other citation stuff was done via a computer in the LEO's car and only the racial record keeping were done manual. But like I said yesterday, nothing would really surprise me...and will agree with the original commenter...tis wasteful IF ANY record keeping is done manually these days. (Again, manually meaning paper/pen and a third party entering the data.)

My goodness, let us all hope that any recordkeeping compilation IS done electronically and not gathered and organized manually. That would indeed be a stupid waste of money.

-- Posted by Me'Lange on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 6:26 PM

Oh, no...Maddog, that was a crazy fella, cool as hell though. He always said he had a twin, I met him, normal as could be....crazy. ☻

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 6:32 PM

Turnip - You can call me a Bonehead if I can call you a Creme Soda or a Milky Way. As long as you leave town with the rest of the minorities (i.e "the homeless"), I don't necessarily care. It sounds like Rick will come chasing after you anyway.

You brought your race into it, but I wouldn't take it too seriously. I'm not.

-- Posted by Just_Me_and_My_Opinion on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 3:40 PM

Jumemy, I would never dream of taking you seriously. ☻

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 6:42 PM

Milky way...I don't get it? I get the point but milky way. that's stupid. ☻

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 6:53 PM

Me'Lange,

While data entry as described may not be cutting edge and may seem "costly", Missouri State Parole Officers just got new laptops at a cost of $2,500 each, so I don't know if the citizens of Cape will like the price tag as the CGPD don't even have dash cams which I would think would be a high priority. Even with the new laptops P&P are experiencing some connectivity issues.

P&P paid for the computers by cutting the Officer to clerical ratio and having Officers do almost all of their data entry and reports.

-- Posted by TripleS on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 8:12 PM

Me'Lange,

every time i've been arrested the arresting officer had to fill out piles of paper work...there were no computers involved , just a camera to take my pic...

-- Posted by *Rick* on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 8:46 PM

Mak'i, OK..u got me...oflmao...but I do have some Asian in me, dontchaknow! ☻ So what's the verdict, are my guys showing up to work tommorow or is it gonna b a washout???

-- Posted by Turnip on Mon, Jun 8, 2009, at 8:52 PM

This story just blows my mind...now I gotta worry about flippin' alligators.

Mad dog had a job at Food Giant too. Unsure if it was legit, but he was there everyday.

Nuts: That guy with the camo pants that talks to himself.

Butts: That old guy that used to walk along Broadway picking up cigarette butts.

Crazy: That guy that had the beard that looked like ZZ Top.

Then there was,

Tuff: That guy that tore down houses on Broadway with a half cigar in his mouth wearing overalls.

McShanty: That tubby guy that rides the bike with a helmet on, and long scraggly hair in back.

Pervert: That old guy with dyed black hair walking his little dog.

Bird Lady: She looked like a stork riding a bike.

Ahh...the memories that only Cruising Broadway could have given.

Definately a fruit salad you're talking about there Meg.
