Citizens Electric says many customers will have power restored today

Tuesday, May 12, 2009 ~ Updated 12:35 PM

Many Perry and northern Cape Girardeau County customers of Citizens Electric Corporation will have their power restored by the end of the day today, according to a morning news release from the electric cooperative.

The utility reported 1,468 customers without power at noon, compared to 3,400 without power Monday afternoon, as crews from Missouri and neighboring states work to re-establish electric service.

By the end of the day Citizens expects power to be restored to the Perry County towns of Parker Lake, Lake Kahtanda, Yount, Friedheim and Cedar Fork. Outages other than individual outages and small feeders will be restored by the end of the day in Altenburg, Frohna, Uniontown and Apple Creek and areas further south, according to the news release.

The outages were caused when a strong line of thunderstorms blew threw Southeast Missouri on Friday, uprooting trees and damaging cars, homes and other property.
