Students punished for doing well

To the editor:

I also am a 1998 graduate of Kelly High School. I feel that the students who got the credits earned the right to walk. Walking across that stage and getting that diploma is something every parent wishes for his or her child. It is one of the greatest accomplishments one makes in life. How is it different for a basketball player to participate when the playoffs go into June, but it's not OK for a student who earned the credits to walk.

These students are being punished for doing well in school. It's pretty sad that the board didn't have enough guts to speak to each student and the parents in person and give a good explanation. They just sent a letter.

These students worked hard and have every right to walk with their class. I am very proud of the students for finally standing up for their rights and going for what they believe.
