Children got a chance to 'Shop with a Hero'

Monday, January 3, 2005

This Christmas season, 72 needy children were taken shopping in the 12th annual "Shop with a Hero" program, sponsored by the Trail of Tears Fraternal Order of Police, Missouri Lodge 33; International Association of Firefighters Local 1084 and the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart Super Center. The children spent $35 each, and 25 individuals participated in the shopping.

Participants included law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 33 service area.

Four different organizations donated money to fund the 2004 "Shop with a Hero" program.

In their sixth year, stocking-stuffer bags proved fun and educational. About 115 were distributed and included magnets, booklets, coloring books, stickers, baseball cards, identification kits, school supplies and candy.
