Something old, Something new

One of the great things about the revival of Old World style is that it combines the charm and warmth of antiquity with the conveniences of today.

The home at 2516 Carriage Crossing in Cape Girardeau is a perfect example. This stone-and-brick home is set on a hill in Randol Farms subdivision. It has been expertly landscaped with pond, stream and rock formations to give it a peaceful setting and also has an in-ground pool and four-car garage.

Inside, the home has Brazilian cherry flooring, coffered ceilings, an arched entryway, gourmet kitchen, beautiful lighting fixtures and a magnificent master suite.

With five bedrooms and four bathrooms, it's large enough to accommodate almost any size family and guests.

This home is full of special features. The entrance foyer, with its Grecian-inspired archway, custom wood work and beautiful inlaid floor medallion, offers a sweeping view of much of the house because of its open floor plan.

To the right is the formal dining room, which features a large bay window and artful inset ceiling with Grecian-style wood molding.

Ahead is a living room, which has a wall with two sets of French doors leading to a backyard patio and screened-in sitting area.

A bedroom wing has three of the home's bedrooms. Two are connected with a handy and well-designed bathroom. Each of these bedrooms has large windows and custom-built study and entertainment areas. One of the bedrooms features a wall with built-in shelving. Each of these rooms also has a large walk-in closet.

The bath features off-white cabinetry with polished-nickel hardware.

The master bedroom suite has hardwood floors and an inset ceiling. French doors lead to the back patio and screened-in sitting area. One of the room's most intriguing features is its double-faced gas-log fireplace, visible from the bedroom and the master bathroom. The garden-style master bath/deep whirlpool tub, with two windows flanking it, allows a view of the fireplace. In addition, this master bath has a step-in tiled shower with total-view glass doors. The shower has two shower heads in polished nickel and a separate toilet area. The suite also features a large walk-in closet and two separate vanities. The vanity uses large, 1920s-inspired lighting.

A family room also has a gas-log fireplace with a gleaming black tile face. A large custom entertainment center and desk areas are other amenities in this room.

The gourmet kitchen features maple cabinetry done with Old World flair. Appliances include a smooth-top range incorporated into a tiled cooking area, and a built-in double oven and double stainless-steel sink, as well as an oversized stainless-steel side-by-side refrigerator with in-door drink and ice dispenser. The countertops are a cool and rich black granite. One amenity not often seen is a built-in warming tray.

A less formal dining area next to the kitchen has beautiful windows and lovely custom cabinetry.

A nearby laundry room has tile floors and a large sink for hand-washables.

Near the kitchen area is a convenient half bath with a sink basin cradled by an authentic slab of Missouri limestone. An Old World-style pendant fixture provides lighting for the area.

This home also has a finished basement with a large family and game room, plus its own gas-log fireplace. French doors lead to the back yard.

More french doors lead to a bedroom suite area with two bedrooms, each with plenty of natural light through large windows and walk-in closets. The downstairs bathroom is convenient to the bedrooms and to the exercise and office area. The downstairs also has plenty of unfinished storage space, well equipped with shelving.
